We’re hiring an Associate Producer

Contract: Part-time (8–10 hours/week), September 2026 – June 2027
Pay: $26/hour

About Open Heart Arts Theatre

Open Heart Arts Theatre creates community-engaged arts experiences that invite people into the creative process. Working alongside communities, artists, and partners, we create projects that foster belonging, amplify lived experience, and make the arts more accessible to everyone.

The Role

We're looking for an Associate Producer to join our small but mighty team.

This is a flexible role that blends behind-the-scenes administration with hands-on support for workshops, events, and community projects. If you enjoy variety, care about the arts, like keeping things organized, and believe creativity can strengthen communities, we'd love to hear from you.

This is a flexible hybrid position with the ability to set much of your own schedule. You'll work closely with Open Heart's leadership team, with opportunities for mentorship and hands-on experience in producing, community-engaged arts, and nonprofit leadership. Some of our programming takes place in the evenings and on weekends, and the role includes regular in-person meetings, workshops, and events throughout Hamilton. Access to a vehicle is helpful, but not required. There may also be an opportunity to extend the contract as the organization grows.

What You'll Do

No two weeks look exactly the same, but your work may include:

  • Coordinating workshops, events, meetings, and project logistics.

  • Preparing artist agreements and other administrative documents.

  • Supporting communications through social media, newsletters, and website updates.

  • Gathering documentation, participant feedback, and information for grant reports and evaluation.

  • Assisting with outreach and relationship-building with artists and community partners.

  • Helping keep projects and organizational systems running smoothly.

  • Pitching in wherever needed—because that's what working on a small team looks like.

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is kind, curious, collaborative, and excited to learn. You might be a great fit if you:

  • Enjoy building relationships and working with people.

  • Are organized and comfortable balancing multiple projects.

  • Communicate clearly and can work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Are excited about the arts, community engagement, and social change.

  • Are based in the Greater Hamilton Area and able to travel within Hamilton for meetings and programming.

  • Are willing to obtain (or already have) a Vulnerable Sector Check.

Experience in arts administration, communications, project coordination, event planning, social media, Google Workspace, Squarespace, or grant writing is an asset—but not required.

We especially value applicants who have lived experience or experience working alongside the communities we serve, including people with lived experience of homelessness or housing insecurity, immigrants, refugees and newcomers to Canada, people with disabilities, and children and youth.

We believe that curiosity, care, and a willingness to learn are just as important as experience. If this role feels like a good fit but you don't meet every qualification, we encourage you to apply.

How to Apply

We know people communicate in different ways, so we'd like to make our application process flexible too.

Please send us your resume and a letter of interest telling us a little about yourself and why you're interested in this role. Your letter can be submitted in whatever format feels most comfortable to you—a written letter, voice memo, video, phone conversation, or another format that works for you.

In your application, we'd love to hear about:

  • A time you demonstrated curiosity, kindness, collaboration, or transparency. What was the situation, what did you do, and what did you learn?

  • Your experience building relationships with people whose lived experiences are different from your own.

  • Your creative practice, or what draws you to community-engaged arts.

Please send your application to rose@openheartartstheatre.com and kelly@openheartartstheatre.com.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until Friday, August 7, 2026. We encourage you to apply early, as interviews may be scheduled before the deadline.

Interviews will take place on August 13 and 14, 2026.

If you have any questions about the role, the application process, or accommodations, please reach out to Rose at rose@openheartartstheatre.com.
